Great food and even better service! Patty melt and biscuits and gravy were a couple of my favorites. Has the feel of a small town diner that's comfortable and inviting. Even though I don't work in Grosse Pointe I would make the trip to the SideStreet Diner. The cupcakes and other baked goods are amazing as well.

It is rare that I can say that I have frequented a restaurant as many times as I have the Side Street Diner. With working in Grosse Pointe and living nearly an hour away, I needed a place to get dinner almost twice a week every week. I can say that I have never had a bad meal. When talking with the owner, she stated she makes sure everything is made fresh. The burgers are great, and you have the option of building your own. The dinners are a bit large, so be prepared to either split the meal, or get a box for home. There menu is quite varied, so there are too many things to point out in this short review. The daily specials are your best bet - everything from Irish dishes to Steak Oscar. The soup selection is quite large, typically 6-8 different kinds. The in house made cakes and desserts are quite good as well. As a diner, it is top notch for your everyday meal and comfort food. (The one time I had breakfast it was fantastic as well.) Unfortunately, there are a lot of high end restaurants in the Grosse Pointe area, and this restaurant will be compared to them. To me, this is apples and oranges - if you are looking for well-prepared, day-to-day food, this is for you. If you are looking for elegant cuisine, this is not for you-go on the Hill in GP Farms.

We love this place and we've become regulars. It's a little more expensive than you'd expect for such a casual establishment, but the service is always friendly, and the food is thoughtful and flavorful. It's well worth the extra buck or two per entree. The rotating selection of daily soups are AMAZING. I wish they offered an "all you can eat" soup option so you could just sample them all. Every single soup we've tried has been wonderful, and for me, soup is a strange thing to be so enthusiastic about. In the summer they even offer cold soups. The chicken fajita salad is one of my favorites, and it's the same as the chicken "fiesta" salad that used to be served at Meagan's on Mack. (One of the owners used to own Meagan's.) If you go at lunchtime or on a Sunday morning, there's a good chance you may have to wait for a table. There's a small outdoor seating section and pastries/desserts for sale at the counter. You'll probably need to take them to go because the portions tend to be pretty generous. I wish they were open later, but that's true of most places in Grosse Pointe.

This place has excellent food. This is just based on several carry-outs that we've had at work, but they all were remarkable. The food is prepared with much care and finesse-deliciously spiced and very generously portioned. Everything we've tried from there has been amazing. The tomato vinaigrette that comes with the Greek salad is seriously the tastiest dressing I've ever had! Coworkers tasted it and eyes were rolling back. YES Please!

I went here on a whim and I am happy I did; this is cute a cute little place. I had the Reuben and beer cheese soup (both were amazing). They had a nice variety of salads and sandwiches and had some nice sounding specials for St. Patrick's Day. They also serve beer and wine and had about 5 homemade cakes for dessert.

I was in for a bite to eat the week before St. Patty's Day, so I took advantage of the Irish themed specials and was not disappointed. The Irish Cheddar Cheese with three different cheeses including one of my favorites, Irish Cheddar, was paired with some pickles right in the sandwich, nice touch. The Irish nachos were the result of a leprechaun walking by and throwing up on some potato chips and I mean that in the best possible way. The chili was solid not spectacular but on that cold afternoon it did it's job. To Recap The Good: Solid diner, not too expensive. The Bad: Parking lot is metered. Like most diners heavy con comfort food. The Band This Restaurant Most Resembles: Hall & Oates. Feels like a throw back in the heart of The Village.

The menu says "A Finer Diner" If by that they mean great service, clean environment, fresh food, and tomato basil soup so good you want to eat it everyday then "A Finer Diner" is for sure what Side Street has going on!! So let me tell you about this soup!! Holy Soup!! A basic tomato base with stewed tomato chunks and fresh basil just floating around doing the back stroke waiting for you to swoon over it's awesomeness! Now for the Mac and Cheese.....it's the kind you dream of. You know the thick rich creamy kind that's a little toasty on top. The kind your spoon sinks into and will stand straight up in it's so thick and delish. ITS THAT KIND!! My BF got a burger! The burgers are great they have a large list of build your own type items all fresh and perfect!! He got shrooms swiss onions peppers and something else. This came with a cup of soup and great crispy fries! Needless to say we left there with very happy bellies and the price was on. For us to feast and have the best service it was $20! HI I LIKE THAT!! So if and or when you are skipping thru the Village check it out. I love they always have a variety of fresh cakes under old glass cake dishes on the counter too!! Ive been back 3 times since my first visit and had breakfast which was also just as great as said meal above!! Just go people! Get some food made with love and a sweet smile from the people working there. You'll leave happy!

I hate to give them 3 stars because the food is great! It's reasonably priced and really a nice spot. Service has always been friendly. The only problem we ran into was seating 5 people. We waited over 20 minutes (after being told it would be 10) and watched groups of 2, 3, and 4 people (who came in after us) be seated at tables that could have easily been pushed together. It is a small dining room... but it was a little ridiculous. There will always be confusion and mistakes, but we watched it happen a few times before we felt completely ignored. Needless to say, we left and went elsewhere.

Jumps looked a little too fancy for lunch, so we ended up here. The place is actually on a side street, and the place is small and very noisy. The woman behind us would NOT sit down! It was really annoying. The service is good, and our waitress was friendly. The clam chowder was excellent. I got the mac n' cheese, which was pretty good. My mother got a salad, which was different, but good. The noise, again, was loud. Lots of young (baby-5 yrs old) kids. It was something different. Almost gave the place 3 stars, but the amazing service and clam chowder made me give it 4. Would come again.

My husband and I often don't cook for just the two of us, so we like to go out for lunch or dinner. With rare exception, usually when we ask: "Where do you want to eat?" the answer is, "Sidestreet." It's a diner, so it's not a sophisticated ambience. But the food is some of the best in Grosse Pointe. We think much of the Sidestreet fare is better than some of the menu items in our more upscale restaurants. And the outside patio is one of the most pleasant in the area. We are flexitarians -- part-time vegetarians -- and we find great options at Sidestreet. The veggie chili is great, as is the veggie stir fry. Try the veggie omelet with raisin toast. Yum. Now that it's summer, they offer gazpacho of top quality and freshness. For those non-vegetarian moments, we love the chicken waldorf salad. It is five star. For desert, Sidestreet has the best cake in town -- a big selection and made in-house. We also love that they are totally cool about substitutions. If we don't want home fries, for example, they are happy to substitute fresh fruit or cottage cheese or whatever. The service is always good. The place is very popular, so sometimes it's packed at lunch and you might have to wait a bit longer, but usually not much longer. Best if you show up before noon on some days. The only negative I can come up with is that the place is old and shows it's wear, especially in the back of the house where the restrooms are located. And the tables are a bit crowded together. But, again, it's a diner.

This place wasn't the greatest when it opened. Nowadays, it's pretty freakin' good. They have an enormous menu, which usually isn't a good sign. But everything I've had has tasted really fresh and homemade. Also, I'm a sucker for good breakfast. They have AWESOME breakfast and will even customize and get creative with some of their meals. ie, Cinnamon Toast Crunch covered french toast.

We tried Side Street last night for the first time and we will be back. I went with something you can't really mess up the Traditional Club. It was huge!!! I could only eat half. It also had nice big bacon slices and real thick turkey sliced. It was so good I'll have a hard time trying something different next time. My wife had a roast beef cheese sandwich thing I really can't remember the name of but I had a few bites and it was also something I would order again. The places is small and not the most modern looking place but as a diner it serves it's purpose. My only complaint was that my wife's pop was like $3.90. Ya, really. $3.90. We practically tipped the waitress a $1 just to bring her pop.

Before the new owners took over, when this place was called Clairpointe, it really was a last resort restaurant for us. The menu was bland and boring and really the only positive thing about it was that it was a good place for a cheap breakfast. The new owners have livened up the decor a bit - though honestly you aren't dining here for the ambiance, it's a pretty standard looking diner. I'd love to see them remodel someday, but can't blame them for not doing it immediately, especially in this economy. But more importantly than the decor, they have breathed fresh life into the menu. Some of my favorite items from Meghan's (one of the owner's previous restaurants on Mack) have returned, which is great news. My favorite thing at Side Street though is the amazing and inventive soups. There is usually at least 5 different daily soups and they are all incredible. I wish they offered some kind all-you-can-eat soup meal because I would love to try more than one in lieu of an entree. I have ordered soups that I never would normally try just because I have yet to have one that wasn't amazing. They are hearty, flavorful and delicious, and we find ourselves going back weekly for more. I mostly stick to my favorite salad there, but I have had a few sandwiches. They ranged from average to pretty good. The soups and salads are the highlight of the menu to me. My boyfriend gives the burgers his seal of approval - and they definitely are better than Burger Pointe, across the street. The staff is friendly and prices are reasonable.

I have a business networking meeting every Wednesday morning at the GP War Memorial. After the meeting we usually have breakfast. Last week our group tried the Side Street Diner. I must say we all had a wonderful breakfast and plan on returning regularly. I had their Corn Beef Hash and found it to be made from scratch and quite good. The Eggs Benedict looked good too.

This is a great addition to The Village, which is lacking in a lot of ways. Sidestreet Diner has great food, wonderful service and an superb atmosphere. Unimaginative and incompetent cuisine. The chili was a mush of ground beef in red sauce and the home fries were obviously deep fried and served with the blackened debris from the bottom of the fryer basket. Although they insist it's a diner, don't expect any traditional diner foods to be available. SideStreet is in the space formerly occupied by the Clairpointe, an unremarkable yet serviceable neighborhood eatery. The new owners put almost no money into the room, yet succeeded in making it look like a dank basement. Using the coatroom requires squeezing past the inevitable stroller jammed in the doorway. No complaints about the service.

So I have been here twice now, and I am going again this weekend. There must be something I like about this place, right? Well, for one, it's right across from the closest Trader Joe's to me. Two, THEY HAVE MIMOSA'S. Three it's family friendly (my son ordered pancakes and he got Mickey Mouse ones). Four, did I mention they have mimosa's and it's across from Trader Joe's? The first time I came here I wasn't sure what to order. Just ended up ordering the usual eggs, toast, hashbrowns, and sausage. The next time I really put some thought into it and ordered the Salmon Bennie. It was GREAT! I will definitely order it again. I didn't catch our waitress' name, but she was very friendly and catered to my toddler. Brought him crayons and a coloring book right away to keep his attention from the sugar packets! There are also fresh baked pies and other treats near the check out. I have never tried any of them, but need to make a note to get a cake pop this weekend when I am in. They always looks so delicious but I am always stuffed from breakfast.

Went here for the first time the other night. Great little diner in the Grosse Point area and a great little find. The sweet potato french fries were the highlight of dish. Salads are fresh and crisp and come with a variety of dressing to chose from. The staff is welcoming and friendly. When I was there there was a number of regular guests that the servers knew by name. This is a great location to eat at when doing grocery shopping in that area. The baked goods are local and made fresh daily and very tasty.

Nice little diner. I had the Greek chicken wrap, very nice size for a lunch. My girlfriend had the turkey Reuben expecting lunch meat, nope it was chucks of turkey. We were pleasantly surprised. Will be back for more.

That is an egg sandwich! We buzzed over the Grosse Pointe for a quick breakfast before we left town. We got to the cute little parking lot around 10:30ish on a Friday. There were a few occupied tables and we were seated immediately. I ordered the egg sandwich with ham and my dining companion ordered the peasant omelet. Our food came pretty quick and man, that sandwich was huge! It was served with these potatoes that were crispy and delicious and were probably double fried. I tried not to eat all of them and it was hard. I did eat the whole sandwich though. It was greasy, buttery, cheesy and good. As I was eating it, I was thinking, "I bet they make a mean grilled cheese here." The food was good, the price was right and the service was good without being hovery. It was good, but I would go back for lunch, but not breakfast. The lunch options look very intriguing.

I have been coming here since side street opened . I used to love it , and would have given it five stars if I reviewed it even a year ago . I have some favorite dishes , but I can't help but feel like my opinion has gone so downhill about this place . Especially after jagged fork opened up, which I have had spot on meals literally every time I have been there . Switching back, The last two times I have had my black bean salad from here it has burnt so badly that the edges are unable to eat ! The one time I did tell the server , the short blonde hair lady with glasses , that it was burnt , she said "I can't fix it if you don't let me know." Granted I am a server myself I know how that goes . People complain after they've eaten the whole thing . But the problem with that logic is that she never even came back to ask how everything was ONCE, and we couldn't get her attention . How could I have told her ? My other issue with this place now is that I come in to eat by myself a lot . And was forced several times to sit at the breakfast bar in which has no back to seats and no room to eat whatso ever because of all the desserts . The same lady told me that I had to sit there or at a table , I was not allowed to sit a booth . Which I can understand , but when I asked to sit in the half booth by the door I was still turned down . I can understand restaurants not wanting singles to take up their prime seating , but if anyone can compare side streets seating to other restaurants , the middle area is literally a mash pit . So no I absolutely don't want to sit somewhere where my entire home cooked meal is ruined by the feeling of being in the middle of a can of sardines . I also am obsessed with their chicken fajita salad, which I still crave for on numerous days . But after either super fatty chewy chicken or it being burnt , I've kind of given up on my go to place here, and just go to jagged fork now , cuz at least I know what I'm getting . What's more than that , is jagged fork will actually treat you for coming back . Being a regular for a few years at side street, I was never given that kind of treatment , Still Love them , but sorry :/

Not a great start to begin with. Semi rude service. Not very welcoming. Club sandwich is good. Had the Ruben before and that is B+ The grilled cheese is super overpriced and $7.99. Fries are and extra $2.79. No kids menu. Almost everything is $8.99 or more We would go here for breakfast (which is ok) but probably won't be back for awhile. Good food and good service. Came here for breakfast and got the Big Breakfast: 3 eggs, sausages, ham, bacon, home fries and toast. Food was tasty and portions were on the slightly bigger side. But at the end of the day, it's just breakfast done the way it should be, nothing to write home about. There wasn't anything that would make me pick this place over any other spot. Two of us went for breakfast last Sunday around 10:30. They were definitely busy but we barely waited a minute before being sat at a table outside - wonderful patio! The Patio is not on Kercheval, it faces the side street so traffic noise is very minimal. Our waitstaff seemed flustered, but pleasant and was trying her best. 4 stars because one of the other waitresses happen to mention the breakfast specials, and we were really glad to overhear. They had a prime rib and eggs special plus a house made breakfast pierogi plate with southern potatoes. We ended up ordering one of each ! Both were tasty, but traditional diner style - all parts seemed to be cooked in oil on a flat top (a bit greasy spoon) . Menu Is extensive with regular diner fair, more breakfast options and salads. We were not dining with children but many other tables were, seems like a family place. They do not allow strollers inside (for fire code reasons) but there are covered parking areas outside . We will be back !

This place is kind of a little hole in the wall but it's very pleasant, well lit, with lots of windows. Service was great, everybody was friendly and smiling. We had two kids with us and the server was very good with them! Food was great with one very slight exception. Kids had pancakes with bacon which they make into a cute face for the kids. My wife had a classic cheeseburger which she really enjoyed. I had a "new age patty melt" which I really liked! I like poutine, my wife not so much, so we had the gravy on the side. Fries where good with or without the gravy. I had more than a few bites of the kids pancakes and they where fantastic! Just the right sweetness to the batter, slightly crunchy outside, soft and spongy in the middle, basically the perfect pancake. Only negative I can say about the food is that every sandwich comes with your choice of either cole slaw or Greek pasta salad. These are apparently prepared either earlier in the day or earlier in the week. They are served in pre-portioned plastic sauce containers with lids. I had the Greek pasta salad and it was not very cold and tasted like it may have been starting to spoil. This is the only reason for only 4 stars. I could do without it anyway so this didn't bother me and I didn't even mention it to the server. Definitely recommend!

This place is great for lunch everything is good no matter what you order I have never had a bad experience just remember you might have to wait for table sometimes when the food is this good also they make all their desserts homemade so even if you're on a diet treat yourself to one of these

I would love to give this place at least 4 stars, but I can't because I have only been there twice so far and both times there was a "screw up" with my husband's order. But the food is very good, it all seems very thoughtful and they use high quality and home made ingredients, which seems fairly rare in Grosse Pointe. A lot of the restaurant food in Grosse Pointe seems like they just got frozen and prepped stuff from Sysco and put it together. That is definitely not the case here. I got the same thing twice because it was SO good--Salmon Bennies (Eggs Benedict on Sourdough with baked salmon, capers, hollandaise sauce and sour cream.) Comes with home fries which are pretty good, although I'm not a huge fan of potatoes. My husband had a Reuben on his first visit and substituted cole slaw for sauerkraut, and therein lay the problem...the cole slaw has raisins in it. Yuck on a Reuben. He felt the waitress should have "warned" him about that when he requested the substitution. Not to mention, in my opinion cole slaw is one of those things you don't need to get creative with. Then again I may be biased because I just don't like raisins period. He had to pick them out, but otherwise liked the sandwich. On most recent visit, I had the Salmon Bennies again (I swear I will try something else next time) and it was just as good. My husband got a bacon and cheddar omelette. When he got three bites into it he realized the egg in the center was raw. Cruelly, the omelette had to be taken away and remade while he sat there starving, watching me enjoying my breakfast. In all fairness, mistakes happen and this one was handled very well and very quickly. The second omelette was back in probably just over 5 minutes, was perfectly done and they made him fresh home fries which impressed both of us. So...despite a couple of hiccups, we will go back again because the food and service are very good (and I really like the atmosphere so don't listen to the complainers who are probably the owners of the shit-ass Village Grill...) the food here is VERY good, the service is above average and the atmosphere is contemporary and definitely not dirty at all. If we get through our next meal and it is just as good and there are no glitches I would definitely bump it up to 4 stars.

We stopped here for a quick simple lunch, 3 bowls soup and some cake for dessert. The soup was delicious served in a generous sized bowl. All homemade and delicious. And the cake (red velvet) and also homemade was very delicious and easily shared between 3 people. I would recommend this place when you are looking for a good meal anytime.

It was Sunday on Memorial Day weekend, so very few places were open. Yet, life had to go on, and carryout lunch needed to be procured. Side Street Diner was open, so I decided to give it a try. I was a little wary at first, given the size of this place's menu and the conventional restaurant wisdom regarding large menus. As my grandma would say, this is the kind of menu that you'd need a PhD to decipher. Somewhat befuddled, I asked the waitress what she recommended, and she steered me towards the corned beef reuben. I was not disappointed. The corned beef is made in-house, and I think that the reuben I ate is on par with the delis on the west side of town, if not even better. The french fries were a bit of a let-down, though. It wasn't that they were bad; they just were not on the same level as that reuben. There was also a little cup of cole slaw that was included with the meal; it was also nothing special. Despite the cole slaw and the fries, I would definitely head back to try some other variety of a corned beef sandwich.

Excellent family favorite, value priced diner. The food is not ordinary like most diners- they have an actual chef on staff and the food is high quality and very fresh. This will likely become "our place"- the owners and wait staff were very down to earth and friendly and the price is totally reasonable. Their desserts are "home made", but obviously the cakes are made from store bought mix with store bought frosting. Still good but not worth it. Would be nice if they could cozy up the decor- it feels a bit cold and impersonal. Net net- this place is a home run!

Wow!! What a great place to eat. Located right off Kercheval in the villiage of Grosse pointe, this place can be sort of hidden. The prices were very reasonable and the food was excellent. The food is basic diner food but it is prepared well. The service at SideStreet is very fast and friendly too. I will stop here everytime I am in Grosse Pointe.

SideStreet Diner is everything you want in a diner..quick, friendly service, sizable (tasty) portions, and really great prices. There's always a mix of people in there - from ladies "doing lunch" to families, to couples like us. We've been here for dinner and brunch now and loved it both times. Their chicken pasta dish was delicious as was their traditional eggs benedict. So happy we live close to the Village. You'll see us at the diner often.

I come to this place at least 2 times a week. My fiancé Shane and myself are definitely "regulars" here. (The servers, all so very sweet, know our names) The breakfast is always amazing! Make sure you get the cranberry nut bread as your toast option. The Mexican omelette with veggie black bean chili atop is my favorite breakfast item to order. They always have amazing soups! The chicken salad is DELICIOUS! As a sandwich, or, order the chicken salad platter!!! Which is my personal favorite and comes with cottage cheese, homemade coleslaw, fruit and a "live forever" cinnamon muffin. Great place. Great service. I've never eaten here and left less than satisfied.

We decided to have dinner at the Sidestreet Deli this chilly May evening. This diner's stick to your rib fare was a nice pairing with the cold weather outside. I had the Maurice Salad, which evoked happy memories of strolling Hudson's back in the day. My one son had a hot beef sandwich on white bread smothered in tasty dark brown gravy. My other son had the fish and chips, which came to the table piping hot and flavorful. The Dinty Moore was drenched in a yummy thousand island dressing. The kids mac and cheese was very cheesy according to my daughter. All and all a pleasurable dining experience and we received service with a smile. ( :
